The high standards of presentation by pupils of all abilities reflect pupils’ great care in their writing and their considerable pride in their work. Teachers’ rigorous application of the school handwriting policy and presentation results in a consistently high standard of presentation in all subjects. Teachers are skilled in teaching art and pupils’ care in drawing complements their handwriting skills. The high quality of pupils’ art and drawing enhances the presentation of their work across the curriculum.
Oasis Watermead Academy, Sheffield
Neat handwriting and presentation are embedded across the curriculum. Pupils apply the same high standards in all subjects. They are proud of their books and rightly so. The recent focus on handwriting has had a positive impact on the standards of presentation, which are particularly high.
Ofsted comment from the report for Clifton Primary School, Hull
Ofsted were VERY impressed by our handwriting and presentation. Moderators, consultants and teachers from visiting schools have all been similarly impressed. Thank you again for your input with this.
Helen Smith, Headteacher, Chaddesdon Park Primary, Derby
Just wanted to let you know we had our Ofsted visit five weeks ago. We went from RI to outstanding! Our report is on the Ofsted website if you're interested! Wanted to say a special thank you, as your input and support with our handwriting has been a part of our outstanding transformation. Glad we found you!
Susie Cousins, headteacher, Lawn Primary, Derby
Pupils present their work to the best of their ability and are proud of the appearance of work in their books. Written work is displayed with care around the school so that pupils feel their work is valued.
Wansbeck Primary, Hull
Through having Martin working closely with us, we have seen a remarkable difference in the way we teach and the children learn to handwrite and present their learning. The impact of this training for staff, children and our wider school community has been phenomenal. We now have a consistent, whole school approach to how we teach handwriting. Our children are taking greater pride in the presentation of all their work; this has been mentioned by external advisors who have visited our school on monitoring days.
Within 12 months of Martin’s training, we have also seen a significant impact on attainment. As a school, in KS1 we are now working 7% above National Average in writing because of the handwriting expectation, which is an in school increase on 2016 by 16%! In KS2 there has been a positive rise in our number of Greater Depth writers and we are now becoming in line with the National Average in this area.
Martin has given us sound, realistic, manageable advise and has also supported us with plans of action on how to continue to be successful.

We had great feedback from staff after you left yesterday Debbie; particularly that your training wasn't entirely what staff had expected (they thought we were doing 'handwriting') and they liked your messages about high expectations along with that there was lots of cross over with behaviour management and other areas of school included in your day. We've seen a huge impact across school in just 3 weeks and hope that our pupils' presentation will go from strength to strength as well as their self-image as "writers"!
Lindsay Galley, Headteacher, Chellaston Infant School, Derby
The training we received from Debbie was fantastic! For many of our staff it was the first time they had received any support for the teaching of handwriting. They really appreciated the very simple practical tips and the consistency of language. The demonstration lessons were of the highest quality and served to reinforce the training perfectly. It is safe to say that both children and staff have been inspired and the impact is already being felt.
Martin Fallon, headteacher, Mosborough Primary, Sheffield
I write to thank you for the handwriting training you gave my staff 18 months ago and its impact on our pupils. We brought you in to help us with the poor presentation we had prioritised to improve. Within three days, you had shown our children and our staff just what could be achieved. From then on, the presentation in the children's books improved dramatically. During our recent inspection, Ofsted commended us on the best presented written work they had seen in the last few years – in every year group. Many thanks for the training, it was money very well spent.
Pierre Coiffait, headteacher, Moorside Primary School, Droylsden, Tameside
Debbie came to our school in July 2016, spending time in each class teaching the children the basics of good handwriting. The day was followed by a very inspiring staff meeting which really got all the staff in school thinking not just about handwriting but expectations and what good teaching really is. Debbie left us with a differentiated handwriting teaching pack which we got started with straight away- in just a week we could already see huge improvements to the children's handwriting across school, particularly in Key Stage 2.
Helen Clark, headteacher, Appley Bridge All Saints, Lancashire
Since our training from ISHA we have seen significant improvements in children's handwriting across school. Teachers found the modelled sessions extremely useful and have developed their confidence in teaching a particular handwriting style, which is now used consistently across our school. ISHA left us with programmes of lessons and essential resources, e.g. guidelines/handwriting vocabulary etc, which allowed us to embed a new policy straight away. Debbie is returning to our school in May and we now value her as an effective partner who will continue to support us in developing the quality of teaching and learning in our school.
James Marsh, Shevington Vale Primary, Wigan
Martin's training and advice is practical and easy to implement and build on, and most importantly, the positive impact on handwriting and standards of presentation have been huge. I would thoroughly recommend it and I wish we'd had the training years ago.
Claire Garlick, Deputy Headteacher, Denton West End Primary School
It was fantastic! I am not surprised at all that you are booked so far ahead! We are are all fully motivated from your training and feedback from staff is that the children can't wait to get going as well. We will thrash out how we are going to launch our handwriting initiative, ensure high profile and then sustainability. You are inspiring, so thank you so much!
Anne Clinton, St Edmund's Primary, Manchester
Martin's handwriting training is truly inspirational. He had all our staff hooked for the entire day. The programme of work is simple and easy to teach, following the training. We have seen transformations in the quality of children's presentation very quickly.
